Now, in a follow-up measure, North Korea has enacted a law covering preventative measures vis earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.Chosun Central News Agency revealed the news on the 24th, saying, “North Korea recently adopted a prevention and rescue law have been adopted in prevention of damages from potential earthquakes and volcano explosions, North Korea took the measures to protect people and property from harm.”The new law reportedly outlines plans to limit earthquake and volcanic damage. No detailed provisions have been released.The possibility of Mt. Beakdu erupting has been current among scholars since last year. In recent research put out by the National Institute for Disaster Prevention, dust and ash could reach Japan and disrupt flight operations within 12 hours of a volcanic eruption in winter, , while the easterly South Korean island of Ulleungdo would be hit within 8 hours.North and South Korea discussed the issue in April in a meeting of experts, but nothing further came of it.According to inside sources, evacuation plans have been under preparation in the name of the Party Central Committee Secretariat. Geologists were reportedly dispatched to the region to investigate the situation on the ground.
